Plaintiff, a 37 year old woman, was admitted for scheduled C-Section to defendant’s hospital. This was plaintiff’s first pregnancy. Plaintiff claimed a wrist tendon sheath injury from an attempted IV insertion. After a close Motion for Summary Judgment on the statute of limitations issue and multiple depositions, Ms. Haskins argued, with the support of expert opinion, that plaintiff had developed De Quervain’s tendinopathy from holding her healthy baby. Plaintiff’s husband claimed loss of consortium. All claims were settled for a confidential amount through informal negotiation at the point in the pandemic when it was clear that the Los Angeles Superior Court was not going to be trying civil cases in the near future.
