Plaintiff, a 46 year old woman, presented to the hospital for progressive numbness/weakness of lower extremities leading to multiple falls. Co-defendant, Neurosurgeon, performed a decompressive laminectomy and discharged plaintiff to a SNF (skilled nursing facility) paralyzed in her lower extremities. Plaintiff then underwent one month of inpatient rehab without improvement. Plaintiff sought a second opinion and was advised that she suffered a significant spinal cord injury iatrogenically. Plaintiff remains paraplegic, wheelchair bound and incontinent of bladder and bowel. Ms. Haskins negotiated a dismissal of the hospital. The balance of the litigation resolved in a confidential settlement with the co-defendant surgeon.
