Derek Lawson is a member of the firm’s Transportation Law, Fire Litigation, General Liability, and Construction Law Practice Groups. Mr. Lawson focuses his practice on cases involving complex theories of liability and represents clients ranging from major Fortune 500 companies to small businesses and individuals. His clients have included trucking and transportation companies, national and regional retailers, as well as various contractors, subcontractors, and developers.
Mr. Lawson is a skillful lawyer who has successfully handled a wide array of cases in California’s state and federal court systems. Mr. Lawson is accomplished in motion practice, often obtaining favorable results on early resolution motions, discovery dispute motions, case dispositive motions, and pre- and post-trial motions. Mr. Lawson has extensive experience preparing and defending witnesses, including expert witnesses, for both deposition and trial. Mr. Lawson also has substantial experience orchestrating settlements between insurance carriers, clients, and opposing parties on complex and catastrophic claims.
Prior to joining Haight, Mr. Lawson worked at a civil defense firm in West Los Angeles where he litigated a variety of cases in similar practice areas. This prior experience further enhanced Mr. Lawson’s ability to strategically analyze cases, effectively communicate with clients, and productively handle matters in his current practice.
