On short notice, Haight stepped in to represent 8-time World Boxing Champion and Worldwide celebrity, Manny Pacquiao, in a high-profile claim by Paradigm Sports Management LLC—best known as former UFC Champion Conor McGregor’s manager.
Prior to Trial, Haight was successful in efforts to vacate a previous order that Requests for Admission were deemed admitted, including defendant ‘s admission he breached the contracts and admitting damages of more than $26,000,000 (with a costs bill and claim for attorney fees in the wings). During the Jury Trial portion of the case, the Jury found in Plaintiff’s favor, and awarded only a small fraction of what plaintiff claimed as damages.
Upon receipt of the verdict, Haight argued Defendant was now entitled to present his Declaratory Relief claim (to the bench) that the contracts were void because Plaintiff did not have the required licensure to enforce the contract against Mr. Pacquiao. After briefing, a tentative decision, and oral arguments, the court issued the Final Statement of Decision.
Based on the 27-page Final Statement of Decision, the court found in favor of Mr. Pacquiao on his Cross-Complaint and declared the Contract void due to illegality.
